Online registration through VNeID is for Vietnamese citizens; if you are a foreign resident, read the “Foreigners” section below. When you rent a home in Da Nang, you need to register temporary residence with the police where you live. You can now do it online through the VNeID app or in person at the ward police station. The rules and the app’s interface can change, so check the latest notice from the police before you start.
Who needs to register temporary residence
Vietnamese citizens who come to live somewhere other than their permanent residence, usually for 30 days or more, must register temporary residence under the Law on Residence. Check the current rules on time limits and conditions on the Ministry of Public Security portal or ask the ward police.
What to prepare
- An activated level 2 VNeID account.
- The rental contract or a document proving lawful accommodation (a photo or scan).
- The landlord’s details: full name, personal identification number, phone number, address of the property.
- A phone with an internet connection.
Steps
- Open the VNeID app and log in with your level 2 account.
- Find the residence procedures or public services section and choose temporary residence registration.
- Fill in the details of the temporary residence: address, relationship to the landlord, landlord’s details.
- Attach a photo of the rental contract or the document proving lawful accommodation.
- Choose the receiving police office (the ward police where you live) and submit the application.
- Follow the status of the application in the app and provide any additional information requested.
Section names in the app can differ between versions. If you can’t find any of the sections above, update the app or ask the ward police.
What the landlord needs to do
In some cases, the landlord or the person renting out the property needs to confirm the residence information. Tell your landlord in advance so they are ready to confirm, and agree on this when you sign the contract.
Common errors
- Account not yet at level 2: you need to go to the police to verify level 2.
- Landlord’s details don’t match: check the identification number and full name again.
- Contract photo blurry or pages missing: take the photos again, sharp and with every page.
- Can’t register online: go in person to the ward police where you live to file a paper application.
Foreigners
Temporary residence declaration for foreigners follows a separate procedure, usually carried out by the accommodation provider or the landlord. Refer to official information from the immigration authority or the ward police.
